Fix Weighted Normals #

The Fix Weighted Normals allows the user to adjust vertex normals on complex shapes where the Process Normals cannot offer perfect results on it’s own. You simply have to select components on your object and the tool will automatically attempt to adjust the vertex normals for a smooth display.

  • To work properly, you have to make sure that your object bevel faces are in the Normal Toolkit Selection Set.
  • This function is still a prototype right now and can produce inconsistant results. If it doesn’t work well in your situation, you should try to use the Transfer Normals Tool instead.

Transfer Normals Tool #

The Transfer Normals Tool allows the user to transfer vertex normals from one object to another. It is often useful for fixing up the normals on complex shapes where the Process Normals cannot offer perfect results on it’s own.

You would usually transfer only to specific part of an object by selecting faces or vertex components of your target object.

Reset Normals #

Use this button to reset the currently selected custom vertex normals (locked normals) to the default Maya normals (unlocked normals). Works with any component types or on full objects.

Right Click Menu

  • Reset Object(s): Unlock the whole object(s) regardless of the selected components.
  • Lock Normals: Lock the selected components/objects.
  • Lock Objects: Lock the whole object(s) regardless of the selected components.

Interface Hotkeys

  • Middle Mouse Click: Run Reset Object(s) function.

Display Normals #

Use this button to manage the display of the vertex and face normals on polygon objects. The main button toggle the normal display state on your selected objects.

Right Click Menu

  • Print Vertex Normal Count: Returns the vertex normal count of the selected object(s).
  • Activate Globally: Enable normal display on all objects in your scene.
  • Deactivate Globally: Disable normal display on all objects in your scene.
  • Display Settings:
  • Activate on new polymesh: Enable/disable the normal display state on newly created polygon primitives.
  • Vertices: Enable/disable the display of vertex normals. Refreshes every objects in the scene when toggled.
  • Faces: Enable/disable the display of face normals. Refreshes every objects in the scene when toggled.

Interface Hotkeys

  • Middle Mouse Click: Toggle the normal display state for all objects in your scene.
  • Shift + Left Click: Run Activate Globally function.
  • Ctrl + Left Click: Run Deactivate Globally function.

Normals Size #

Use the slider to control the display normal length. By default, size is set on a per-object basis.

The range of the slider is expandable and you can set normal sizes from a range of 0.02 up to a maximum of 10000.

Right Click Menu

  • Set as default value: Set the current normal size as the default value when using the Reset Button.
  • Reset: Reset normal size to the default value.
  • Objects Affected:
  • Selection: Set the normal size on a per-object basis.
  • Global: Set normal size globally on every objects in your scene.
  • Real-Time Update: When checked, display normal size will update in real-time while dragging the slider in Global mode. It may cause slowdown when used in very heavy scenes.

Interface Hotkeys

  • Middle Mouse Click: Run Reset function.
